FDA approves Wegovy pill, the first oral GLP-1 drug for weight loss
The FDA approved once-daily oral semaglutide 25 mg (Wegovy pill) for chronic weight management and to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events, the first oral GLP-1 receptor agonist approved for obesity. In the OASIS 4 trial, average weight loss was about 14% versus about 2% on placebo regardless of adherence, and about 17% versus 3% among people who stayed on treatment. Novo Nordisk set a self-pay price of $149 a month for the 1.5 mg starting dose ahead of a January 2026 launch.
