Semaglutide cuts heavy drinking days in trial of alcohol use disorder with obesity

A randomized, double-blind trial published in The Lancet gave once-weekly semaglutide or placebo for six months to 108 adults with obesity seeking treatment for alcohol use disorder at a Danish mental health center, alongside cognitive behavioral therapy. Heavy drinking days fell from about 17 to 5 per 30 days with semaglutide versus 17 to 9 with placebo. The authors noted the trial was small and had no follow-up after treatment ended.
