Health Canada approves first generic semaglutide for weight loss

Health Canada authorized a generic semaglutide injection from Apotex, a copy of Wegovy, for once-weekly chronic weight management in people aged 12 and older. It was the third generic semaglutide product approved in Canada, which on April 28, 2026 became the first G7 country to approve one (a Dr. Reddy's version of Ozempic for type 2 diabetes). Health Canada said six more generic semaglutide submissions were under review.
