China approves mazdutide, first dual glucagon and GLP-1 agonist for weight loss

China's National Medical Products Administration approved Innovent's mazdutide for chronic weight management in adults with a BMI of at least 28, or at least 24 with a weight-related condition. It is the first approved drug that activates both the glucagon and GLP-1 receptors. In the 48-week GLORY-1 trial in Chinese adults, weight fell by 12.0% on 4 mg and 14.8% on 6 mg versus 0.5% on placebo. Innovent develops mazdutide in China under a license from Eli Lilly.
