Shionogi reported that a global phase 2 trial of redasemtide, an investigational peptide derived from the HMGB1 protein, did not meet its primary endpoint in acute ischemic stroke. Disability at 90 days, measured using the modified Rankin Scale, did not improve significantly versus placebo in the group that had not received treatment to reopen blocked blood vessels. Exploratory subgroup findings suggested possible benefit in more severe cases, but they do not overturn the negative primary result. The company reported comparable adverse-event rates and said future development would be considered after further analysis.
