STEP UP exploratory analysis finds reduced liver fat with semaglutide

Novo Nordisk presented an exploratory, post hoc analysis from a 55-person imaging subgroup of STEP UP at EASD. Among 26 participants with elevated liver fat who received semaglutide, 23 (88.5%) had liver fat below 5% at week 72. The analysis pooled semaglutide treatment groups and was not a prespecified main trial outcome. This small subgroup finding does not establish reversal of liver scarring or long-term clinical benefit.
