The FDA approved Mimrylo (rusfertide) for adults with polycythemia vera, a disorder that causes excess red blood cell production. It is the first approved medicine for this condition that mimics the iron-regulating hormone hepcidin. Approval was based on the 293-participant VERIFY trial, which found a reduced need for blood-removal procedures (phlebotomy) compared with placebo. Injection-site reactions and anemia were the most common adverse reactions.
