EMA committee recommends oral Wegovy tablets for weight management in the EU

The EMA's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) recommended extending Wegovy's EU marketing authorization to add a once-daily oral semaglutide tablet as an alternative to weekly injections for adults with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related condition. The EMA described it as the first GLP-1 receptor agonist developed for oral use in weight management. A CHMP opinion is followed by a European Commission decision.
