FDA approves Wegovy to cut heart attack and stroke risk in adults with obesity

The FDA approved Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4 mg) to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, heart attack and stroke in adults with established cardiovascular disease and obesity or overweight. The decision rested on the SELECT trial of more than 17,600 people, in which major cardiovascular events occurred in 6.5% of those on Wegovy versus 8% on placebo. It made Wegovy the first weight-loss medicine also approved to help prevent cardiovascular events.
