FDA approves Zepbound as first drug for obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity
The FDA approved tirzepatide (Zepbound) for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity, used with a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity, making it the first medicine approved for the condition. Approval was based on two 52-week trials in 469 adults without type 2 diabetes, including people who did and did not use positive airway pressure therapy. Tirzepatide significantly reduced apnea and hypopnea events versus placebo, and more participants reached remission or mild sleep apnea.
