FDA approves Ozempic to slow kidney disease in adults with type 2 diabetes

The FDA approved semaglutide (Ozempic) to reduce the risk of kidney disease worsening, kidney failure and cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. The label expansion was based on the FLOW trial of 3,533 adults, stopped early for efficacy after a median 3.4 years, in which Ozempic 1 mg lowered the risk of the primary kidney and cardiovascular endpoint by 24% relative to placebo. It is the first GLP-1 receptor agonist approved for this use.
